We visited london for 5 days and this was the best meal we had on the entire trip. It made the trip food memorable!!! We got a bunch of the starters to share and the flatiron steak. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children, and shared: The chorizo Truffle eclairs The octopus 2 beef tartar Artichoke Burrata fries Crispy potatoes Green salad Snap peas Pardon peppers It was a lot of food, BUT… Everything was SO good we licked our plates clean. Perfect cooking technique and wonderful flavours, outstanding quality. The octopus was the standout. I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. Perfectly buttery grilled octopus, grilled peppers and potatoes so flavorful and the bright herby sauce was just perfect. The beef tartar was also incredible and the burrata was so creamy and high quality. Service was outstanding and friendly, vibes immaculate. If I’m nit-picking, I would suggest slicing the Chilis for the snap pea dish, making the artichoke dish as well as the salad a little more layered in flavours and textures. The eclairs tasted slightly stale, as if the Choux had been made too long ago and left to sit out. And overall I personally like a little more acidity and brightness in my food. But outstanding restaurant, I would recommend it without hesitation and will gladly visit again when I go back to london!!
Great food, on the pricey side with sample menu online quite different from actual menu. Starter hummus lacked seasoning. Mushroom marmite éclair was packed with flavour, could've eaten a plateful. Rosemary potatoes are the crispiest we've ever had. Chocolate mousse with cherries was luxurious and well balanced without being too rich. Waiter was brilliant and explained the menu and specific dishes really well.
We came for a second time back and as always the beef Wellington was amazing. The staff was lovely, especially Claire. She showed us some British wines and a lovely apple aperitif. In short the complete experience at Sussex was brilliant. We will definitely return to this establishment!
my kids and I truly enjoyed the Beef Wellington. it takes exactly 45min to arrive but it's well worth the wait! booked to perfection, crunchy skin outside with a layer of chopped mushroom, and then a tenderly cooked steaks. we also enjoy the art pieces decorating the restaurant.
The interior is sumptuous retro vintage - cozy mahogany and leather feel. We had the beef Wellington for 2 to share between three people and the bread with onion butter. Both were delicious and ample. The main came with two sides, a salad and salt baked potatoes. The potatoes were phenomenal: crisp and tasty on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside; moist and delicate without any of that dry chalkiness that can creep into a bite of baked potatoes. The Wellington was perfection, a silky tender filet encased in layers of flavor. Tom was our server and he was jovial, amicable and knowledgeable. A delightful experience all around.
